JAKARTA - UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini, said the Israeli army continued to silence voices reporting atrocities from the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

In an X post on social media, Lazzarini revealed his horror at the killing of five journalists by Israel in Gaza City in Sunday's airstrikes.

He said, "Since the war began, more than 200 Palestinian journalists have reportedly died without punishment," the WAFA reported on August 11.

He further wrote, "Israel has also blocked access to international journalists to cover independently since the war began nearly two years ago."

Lazzarini stressed the need to protect journalists and allow international media into Gaza to support the heroic work of their Palestinian counterparts, saying, "Jurnalis must be protected and international media must enter Gaza to support the heroic work of their Palestinian counterparts."

"This is the only way to fight disinformation and prevent doubt about the scale of atrocities committed in Gaza," he said.

Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif was killed along with four of his colleagues in Israel's directed attack on a tent housing journalists in Gaza City, quoted from Al Jazeera.

Seven people were killed as a whole in an attack on a tent located outside the main gate of Gaza City's al-Shifa Hospital on Sunday night.

They include other correspondents Al Jazeera Mohammed Qreiqeh as well as three cameras, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.

Hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza City attended the funeral of five Al Jazeera journalists who were killed in Israeli airstrikes outside al-Shifa Hospital.

A large crowd of people joined the funeral procession, carrying the bodies of journalists from al-Shifa Hospital to Sheikh Radwan Cemetery in central Gaza on Monday.

Colleagues, friends, and relatives embraced in mourning, while a man lifted a jacket that read "pers" at all times over the crowd.
