JAKARTA - The Bengkulu-Lampung Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) reminded farmers to be careful when doing activities in the garden to anticipate the sun bear attack.

This followed recently a sun bear entered a rubber and palm oil plantation owned by residents in Ketahun District, North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province.

"Yes, the bear just passed (in a resident's garden), because there was a replanting of a rubber plantation so oil palm, we have appealed to the surrounding community to be careful about activities in the garden," said Head of the Conservation Section Region I BKSDA Bengkulu-Lampung Said Jauhari when contacted Friday, confiscated by Antara.

He said that Bengkulu BKSDA officers have not set traps, because the sun bear does not disturb farmers and is just passing by.

However, the people around the location are advised to be more vigilant and careful, and to be able to expel the sun bear independently using sounds.

However, if the bear has interfered with activity, the public is asked to immediately report the matter to the nearest officer for follow-up.

"If the bear is still disturbing so that people report to the nearest officer, we will continue to monitor its progress," said Said.

Previously, in early 2025 the Bengkulu - Lampung BKSDA dispatched a special team to set traps to evacuate the sun bear in the plantation area belonging to residents of Padang Tambak Village, Karang Tinggi District, Central Bengkulu Regency.

"We dispatched a patrol team to check and set traps to evaluate the sun bear," said the Head of the Bengkulu - Lampung Pirmansyah BKSDA Forest Police Unit.

For the location where the sun bear appears, it is its natural habitat, but because its appearance makes local residents nervous, BKSDA dispatched a special team.

For information, a large sun bear appeared in a plantation owned by residents not far from community settlements in Padang Tambak Village, Central Bengkulu Regency.
