JAKARTA - The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that more than 14,800 patients in the Gaza Strip, Palestine needed special medical treatment.

"We urge more countries to move forward to accept patients and accelerate medical evacuation through all possible channels," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on social media X, quoted from WAFA Aug. 7.

The petition came after WHO announced it had facilitated the medical evacuation of 15 children who were critically ill to Jordan on Wednesday morning, accompanied by 42 companions.

"We thank the Jordanian government and health workers who continue to provide special care to patients from Gaza, especially children," Tedros said.

Ghebreyesus previously said the WHO had delivered 24 trucks carrying medical supplies to the Gaza Strip since August 1, including essential drugs and other medical equipment.

Ghebreyesus indicated that the medical supplies would be sent to health centers and hospitals.

As of yesterday, Palestinian casualties as a result of the October 2023 Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip had risen to 61,158, the majority being children and women, while the injured increased to 151,442 people.
