YOGYAKARTA The Payment ID trial that will be carried out by Bank Indonesia (BI) has drawn the spotlight from the public. Many think that through the unit code system, the government can monitor all public financial transactions. Although not all of them know Payment ID, the public needs to know what types of transactions can be monitored Payment ID.

It should be noted that Payment ID is a community electronic transaction system in Indonesia. In its development, BI will integrate the Population Identification Number (NIK) with the Paymen ID system so that it can detect public transactions.

Regarding what transactions Paymen ID can monitor, Director of the Payment System Policy Department (DKSP), BI Dudi Dermawan gave his statement. Quoted from Kompas, some things that can be detected are as follows.

In addition to recording public financial transactions, Paymen ID has several benefits, one of which is detecting financial crimes.

Director of Economic Digital Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS) Nailul Huda assessed that the BI output transaction system has great potential to oversee the distribution of social assistance (bansos). According to him, the system can be used to monitor the use of comprehensive social assistance funds from government treasury to transactions carried out by social assistance recipients.

"If we also relate it to the supervision of the use of social assistance, which I think can be monitored more easily when using Payment ID. Social assistance funds will be recorded starting from government cash to use by social assistance recipients," Nailul Huda told VOI, quoted Thursday, August 7.

If all financial transactions are carried out digitally, said Huda, the government can suppress the occurrence of corruption and misappropriation of funds. In addition, fraud criminals can also be detected more quickly.

"However, this step must also be accompanied by an increase in the prosecution of financial criminals," he explained.

Huda also said that Payment ID can be used to monitor transactions related to government spending.

"It can even be used for the purchase of goods by the government which is prone to corruption, kickback, and so on. So the finances related to government transactions can take advantage of payment ID," he added.

Regarding the launch of Paymen ID, BI has not announced the exact date. However, BI will conduct a trial of the electronic transaction system on August 17, 2025, coinciding with the 80th Indonesian Independence Day.

"Currently Payment ID is still in the trial/experiment stage to be used in only one particular use case, namely assisting the accuracy of the distribution of non-cash social assistance, which will begin the process on August 17," said Head of the BI Payment System Policy Department Dicky Kartikoyono, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 7.
