Lamongan Police Raises Umrah Travel Fraud Case To Investigation, Total Loss Of IDR 18 Billion

Lamongan - Lamongan Resort Police (Polres) stated that the alleged fraud case committed by the travel agency PT Tawwabiin Umrah and Haji Plus had been officially raised to the investigation stage.

Head of Public Relations of the Lamongan Police, Ipda M. Hamzaid, said as many as 13 people had been questioned as witnesses in the case handling process, including from the travel agency and the management.

"The case has now gone up to the investigation stage," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 6.

He ensured that investigators would continue to follow up on the legal process professionally, along with the development of evidence and statements from witnesses who had been examined.

According to him, the deepening of the case will also continue and if supporting evidence is found, it will also have the opportunity for the determination of the suspect.

"The investigation of the case continues and opens the possibility of a potential suspect, if other supporting evidence is found," he added.

Previously, dozens of prospective pilgrims reported PT Tawwabiin Umrah and Haji Plus to the police for failing to send pilgrims to the Holy Land.

The prospective pilgrims were not dispatched according to the promised schedule, nor are there any refunds to date.

Prospective pilgrims have deposited funds between Rp. 25 million to Rp. 50 million per person to be able to go to the Holy Land.

From the statement of the coordinator of victim Wahyudiono, it was stated that the total loss for the victims reached Rp. 18 billion.

The victims admitted that they were interested because of the cheap Umrah promo and a number of bonuses.

However, there was no clarity on the departure or refund of funds from the travel side, the victims then took legal steps.
