BANTEN - The Banten Regional Police's General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) has uncovered a robbery syndicate targeting diesel tanker trucks on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road at KM 75.

In this investigation, six people were arrested, while two other perpetrators are still being pursued, including one who was known to be carrying a firearm.

"This case was reported on July 24, 2025, at around 1:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The victims were the driver and assistant of a tanker truck carrying 14 kiloliters of diesel," said the Director of Criminal Investigation at the Banten Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Dian Setyawan, during a press conference at Banten Regional Police Headquarters, Serang City, Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Dian explained that the robbery had been pre-planned by the perpetrators at a house in the Lebak area. After formulating the plan, the perpetrators waited for the victim at a rest area on the Balaraja Toll Road.

Upon arrival of the targeted tanker truck, they pulled over and forced it to stop. One of the perpetrators pointed a firearm at the victim. The driver and assistant were then held hostage, their eyes taped shut, their hands tied, and then transferred to the perpetrators' car.

"The truck was taken to another location, dismantled, and the diesel fuel was sold. The victim was left at the West Serang Toll exit with the vehicle empty," said Dian.

From the proceeds of the sale of the stolen diesel fuel, valued at Rp110 million, each of the six perpetrators received approximately Rp11.5 million.

After receiving the report, investigators acted swiftly. Four perpetrators were arrested on August 2, and two others were apprehended the following day. The other two perpetrators remain at large.

"Two of the perpetrators are known to be members of community organizations, namely KKPMP and Grib Jaya. The rest work in the private sector and reside in Lebak and Serang," explained Dian.

The perpetrators were charged under Article 365 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with violence, which carries a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment.

According to the investigation, this syndicate has committed four similar acts. Three of them occurred in West Java and one in Banten. The modus operandi was consistent: targeting diesel tankers on toll roads, then holding the victims hostage and emptying their cargo.

The seized evidence included a tanker truck, an Avanza, a cell phone, an e-toll card, and cash from the crime. Another vehicle, a Daihatsu Terios, is still being sought.

Furthermore, police have identified the recipient of the stolen diesel fuel and are currently pursuing them.

"We ask for the support of the public and media partners so that the other two perpetrators, including the one carrying a firearm, are quickly apprehended. We will not stop until all the perpetrators are apprehended," Dian emphasized.
