PDIP Politicians On The Balance Party: Joining Is Not Necessary In Government

JAKARTA - Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP Andreas Hugo Pareira explained the attitude of his party that took on the role of the balancing party in President Prabowo Subianto's administration. Andreas said that supporting the Prabowo government does not have to be in the government.

"Regarding the position of the PDI-P as a balancing party, even outside the government, we can provide support. So joining does not have to be in the government," Andreas told reporters, Tuesday, August 5.

As is known, at the closing speech of the PDIP's VI Congress in Bali, PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri emphasized that the party bearing the bull symbol did not position itself as a coalition or opposition.

PDIP, said Megawati, is a balancing political party that will support government policies as long as they side with the people, but will continue to criticize if there is a wrong policy.

Thus, Andreas ensured that PDIP would not be included in the Red and White Cabinet of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for the period 2025-2030.

"Strictly and clearly, Mrs. General Chair Megawati Soekarno Putri has said that the PDI-P is a balancing party," he said.

Furthermore, Andreas explained that joining parties in government is the prerogative of the president. However, even though PDIP chooses to be outside the cabinet, he said, his party will still provide objective support to the government.

"I have to say that the matter of joining the government is the prerogative of the president and we must respect the prerogative of the president," said the Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR.

"Then criticizing things that need to be criticism of the government, I think that is what the president also wants. That the president also needs a second opinion from outside the government," Andreas concluded.
