Ahmad Muzani: Abolition And Amnesty Of President Prabowo Have Been Considered By Matang

JAKARTA - MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani said that President Prabowo Subianto's decision to give an abolition to Tom Lembong and amnesty to Hasto Kristiyanto was a step that had gone through deep consideration.

"I think the President has gone through careful consideration about it," said Muzani when met at the MPR RI Building, Jakarta, Sunday, August 3, 22025.

He emphasized that granting abolitions and amnesty is the prerogative of the President as regulated in the 1945 Constitution. Muzani also welcomed this step, in the hope that it could strengthen the spirit of togetherness in the community.

"We welcome it as part of efforts to strengthen unity, togetherness, and mutual cooperation," he said.

As is known, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, the Indonesian House of Representatives has given official approval for the abolition request for former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong in the alleged corruption case of sugar importation at the Ministry of Trade in 2015-2016.

On the same day, the DPR also approved a request for amnesty for the Secretary General of the PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto who was involved in the interim replacement bribery (PAW) case Harun Masiku and the obstruction of the investigation.

Tom Lembong was previously sentenced to four years and six months, while Hasto was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

After the president's decision was signed, Tom Lembong was officially released from the Cipinang Rutan on Friday night, August 1. Hasto Kristiyanto was also released from the KPK detention center on the same day.
