JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the amnesty granted by President Prabowo Subianto to PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto is historic.

This was conveyed by the KPK's Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, after Hasto was released from detention for bribery in the replacement of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). According to him, this is the first politician to receive a presidential pardon.

"For the KPK itself, as far as I've been working here, this is the first amnesty," Asep said at the KPK's Merah Putih building in Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday evening, August 1.

Asep admitted he couldn't say much about the pardon. "We must understand that amnesty, clemency, and abolition are the prerogative of the President. This is regulated in Article 14 of the 1945 Constitution. Please, colleagues, please see there," he emphasized.

"So, because it's a prerogative, yes, we must implement it. We must implement this Presidential Decree," continued Asep, who also serves as the Director of Investigations at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Furthermore, the KPK will certainly analyze Hasto's amnesty. However, the ongoing legal process in this case, including the pursuit of Harun Masiku, who remains at large, will continue.

"We are currently investigating the legal implications. If there are no other issues, we will continue to pursue Harun Masiku. We will search for him and bring him to trial," said Asep.

Hasto was released from the KPK detention center at around 9:24 PM WIB. He was smiling and clenching his fists.

He was seen wearing a red shirt and a black jacket. Hasto was also carrying a backpack.

After leaving the KPK detention center, Maqdir Ismail, Hasto's lawyer, said his client would be reunited with his family. Hasto will fly to Bali to attend the 6th Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Congress.

"I think he'll go home first to see his family. Regarding political matters in Bali, he could still go tomorrow morning or tomorrow afternoon," Maqdir emphasized before Hasto left the KPK detention center.
