JAKARTA - Flash floods hit the mountainous region north of Vietnam last night resulting in at least three people being killed, nine others missing.

Citing AFP, Vietnam's disaster management authorities on Friday, August 1 reported, flash floods of up to 30 centimeters in the provinces of Son La, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, and Dien Bien, were affected by heavy rains.

This disaster made a number of these areas isolated. Several villages that were flooded were not even accessible until Friday afternoon.

Kementerian Agricultural Vietman mengatakan operasi pencarian sembilan orang hilang masih berlangsung di komune Tia Dinh dan Xa Dung di Provinsi Dien Bien.

State media quoted local authorities as saying that flash floods started from upstream due to heavy rains since 03.00.

Last weekend, flash floods claimed five lives in Son La Province, Vietnam. This disaster also inundated food crops and washed away poultry and livestock.
