JAKARTA - The United States government will impose anti-Russian sanctions after the 10-day period ends, although these sanctions may not have a serious impact on the situation around Ukraine, President Donald Trump told reporters.
"We will impose sanctions. I don't know if the sanctions bother him (Russian President Vladimir Putin). You know, they know about sanctions. I know better than anyone about sanctions, tariffs, and other things. I don't know if that matters, but we will," he said, quoted by TASS August 1.
"But this is a war that should never have happened. This is a war that would not have happened had I been president, and this is a war (former US President Joe) Biden. This is a stupid war, it should never have been involved in this war," he added.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said they were continuing to monitor US President Donald Trump's statement regarding sanctions against Moscow, while Russia had gained immunity against the measure thanks to a long experience.
"We have lived under a large number of sanctions for a long time, our economy is operating under large numbers of restrictions," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"Therefore, of course, we have developed certain immunity in this regard, and we continue to pay attention to all statements coming from President Trump, from other international representatives on this matter," he continued.
The comments came after President Trump said on Tuesday the United States would start charging Russia tariffs and other measures in 10 days if Moscow showed no progress in ending the war that had lasted more than three years in Ukraine.
