Tom Lembong Gets Abolition, Appreciation Lawyer

JAKARTA - Lawyer for the Minister of Trade (Mendag) for the 2015 '2016 period Thomas Trikasih Lembong (Tom Lembong), Ari Yusuf Amir, thanked Tom Lembong for the abolition given by President Prabowo Subianto and approved by the DPR.

Ari admitted that he did not understand in more detail the approval of the application for the abolition. He will also hold a meeting first to determine his attitude.

"Because there are legal consequences of the abolition, we have to discuss it first," said Ari as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 31.

According to him, the awarding of the abolition should be respected as an effort to improve.

Furthermore, he will also inform Tom Lembong directly.

"We will also talk to Mr. Tom tomorrow, for sure," he said.

The DPR has approved the application for abolition submitted by President Prabowo Subianto to former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong or Tom Lembong in the alleged corruption case of sugar importation at the Ministry of Trade in 2015'2016.

"The DPR RI has given considerations and approvals to Presidential Letter Number R.43/PRES/07/2025 dated July 30, 2025 regarding the request for consideration of the DPR RI for giving an abolition on behalf of Tom Lembong's brother," said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco.

Hal tersebut disampaikannya usai pemerintah bersama DPR yang terdiri dari pimpinan dan fraksi-fraksi melakukan rapat konsultan untuk memberikan pertimbangan dan persetujuan terhadap Surat Presiden Nomor R.43/PRES/07/2025 tersebut.

Minister of Law Suprtaman Andi Agtas said the proposal to give an abolition to Tom Lembong was proposed by him to President Prabowo.
