Russia Is Worried About The Threat Of A New Attack On Iran's Nuclear Facilities

JAKARTA - Russia on Wednesday expressed concern about the threat of a new attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, saying Tehran's nuclear program deal could be reached through dialogue.

United States President Donald Trump on Monday warned Iran he would order a new attack if Tehran reactivated its nuclear facilities after last month's attack.

"The routine threat to Iran to launch new missile and bomb attacks against its nuclear facilities certainly raises serious concerns. The synergy of the statement is exacerbated by the fact that the statement was made under the guise of imaginary concerns about the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. "The bombing of nuclear facilities should not be an ordinary and routine international practice. The risk of disasters related to this cannot be ignored, let alone justified," he continued.

Israel launched an attack on Iran on June 13 targeting nuclear and military facilities. The US in turn attacked Iran's nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan on June 21. All attacks are claimed to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Russia has been in closer ties with Iran since the start of the war in Ukraine. The two countries this year signed a strategic partnership agreement.

Zakharova said the ongoing settlement of peace and the pledge not to launch a new attack on Iran were prerequisites for normalizing cooperation between Tehran and the UN nuclear watchdog body.
