JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for increased engagement with the United States while at the same time stressing that there would be no confrontation between the two global powers.
Wang delivered the statement that the meeting in Beijing with the US business delegation included executives from Goldman Sachs, Boeing and Apple.
"China is willing to increase engagement with the US, avoid misassessment, manage differences, and explore cooperation," Wang said.
His remarks came a day after major Chinese and US negotiators completed a round of the latest trade negotiations in Stockholm, with both sides agreeing to extend the 90-day tariff ceasefire agreed in May.
Wang said China-US relations were affected by global developments and had a "deep" impact on international dynamics.
"China and the US need to build more communication and consultation channels, view each other objectively, rationally, and pragmatically, and foster the right strategic perception," he said.
He encouraged US companies to maintain trust in the Chinese market, and welcomed them to continue investing in China, the ministry said in a statement.
A high-level US executive delegation will visit China this week and has also met with Chinese trade and industrial ministers.
