MATARAM - The West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government together with the Mount Rinjani National Park Center (BTNGR) starting August 11, 2025 implementing standard operating procedures (SOP) just climbing Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island.

Head of the NTB Tourism Office Ahmad Nur Aulia said the new SOP was discussed from 1 to 10 August 2025.

"Now we continue to coordinate with TNGR. God willing, the SOP will be parallel after the track maintenance period," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 29.

The NTB Provincial Government and TNGR Center have compiled a period of improvement and verified and validated various things that entered the new SOP. The new standard will set a climbing standard to anticipate incidents on the hiking trail.

"Our deadline until August 10 can be completed and implemented," he said.

The Tourism Office will also carry out a process of improving skills for 371 porters and guides who make a living on Mount Rinjani.

"We have coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism and Training for guides that will be carried out during holidays. Because it's an opportunity. So far, we have difficulty finding guides and porters if the season is busy or high season in Rinjani, because all of them bring guests," he explained.

He said of the 661 porters and guides on Mount Rinjani, 371 of them had not been given a guide certification.

Of the 371 people, 50 guides have been given certification during the maintenance period of the route on Mount Rinjani.

"So there are still 321 people left and we have provided training for 50 (people). The rest during the maintenance period we will intensify August 1-10," said Aulia.

In the process of providing training to 371 Rinjani guides, basic knowledge was also given regarding the handling of basic health and safety care. All guides are given an understanding of the basic execution of rescue when an incident occurred in Rinjani.

"So, in the training, the guide did not have a menu for basic rescue. But we have asked SAR to provide additional knowledge sharing for guides regarding basic rescue," he said.

Previously, the Head of the TNGR Yarman Center said that the revision of the Mount Rinjani climbing SOP would be carried out together with all parties, local governments, including tourism actors and the community around Mount Rinjani.

"We are talking about Rinjani's governance after the Juliana case yesterday. We conveyed that there were several evaluations. There was an evaluation of our own human resources and tourism actors, we will revise the facilities including SOP together," he said.

The revision of this climbing SOP was discussed by the working group (pokja). Pokja was formed from various circles, including TNGR, NTB Provincial Government, and other parties.

"Later, the working group will discuss their respective roles. So the points in this SOP are porters, TO, what is the role guide. Yes, hopefully it can be realized soon. Later there will be a follow-up meeting," he said.
