The Riau Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) revealed the practice of mixing rice in Pekanbaru City by a shop owner with the initials RG (34).

From his actions that lasted almost a year, the perpetrators allegedly made a profit of up to almost Rp. 1 billion.

"The suspect mixed low quality rice from the Stang area, Pelalawan Regency, then repackaged into the sacks of Bulog SPHP rice and other premium brands," said the Director of Criminal Investigation at the Riau Police, Kombes Kuncoro to reporters in Pekanbaru, Tuesday, July 29.

RG is known to be the owner of the Murni Rice Shop on Jalan Sail, Pekanbaru. The cheating practice has been carried out from 2024 to mid-2025.

During the raid carried out by the officers, the police confiscated evidence of 9,745 kilograms of mixed rice. In addition, a number of production tools, documents, sewing threads, and digital scales were also secured.

"This is a form of commitment from the Riau Police in taking firm action against irresponsible business actors and has the potential to endanger consumer rights and disrupt commercial order," said Ade.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with multiple articles in Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, including Article 62, Article 8, and Article 9. The penalty is 5 years in prison and a maximum fine of IDR 2 billion.

Ade emphasized that law enforcement in the food sector will be carried out consistently and without compromise, in line with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

"I convey a strong warning to all business actors in Riau. Do not try to commit fraudulent practices. Anyone who violates will be dealt with firmly," he said.

Meanwhile, Riau Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Jossy Kusumo said that the circulation of mixed rice was not only a violation of the law, but also a form of betrayal of people's rights.

"This is a form of real state presence. Law enforcement shows that honesty in the food business is not only a matter of ethics, but also a legal and moral obligation," he said.

In line with that, the Deputy Head of the Riau High Prosecutor's Office (Wakajati), Dedie Tri Hariyadi, stated that his party would follow up on this case professionally and thoroughly at the prosecution level.

"This action is a tangible form of the seriousness of law enforcement officers in protecting the public from fraudulent practices in the food sector," said Dedie.

He added that the Riau Prosecutor's Office would not allow the legal process to stop in the middle of the road. "We make sure this case continues until justice is upheld," he said.
