Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Visits Indonesia Today

JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to make an official visit to Indonesia on July 28, 2025. Anwar Ibrahim's arrival was to attend the 13th Indonesian-Malaysia Annual Consultation with President Prabowo Subianto.

The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said this consultation forum was a strategic momentum to strengthen bilateral relations while exploring new collaboration opportunities in facing regional dynamics and global challenges.

The annual consultation is the highest bilateral cooperation platform between the two countries to be held in turns since it was first implemented in 2006. This forum is a form of political commitment to strengthen synergies in various sectors, including trade, defense, connectivity, food security, and education.

This meeting became the first consultation attended by Prabowo and Anwar after the two officially served as heads of government in each country. The forum also marks the continuation of the annual meeting after it was last held in 2017.

In addition to the bilateral meeting agenda, the two leaders will witness the signing of four memorandums of understanding (MoU) which includes land border cooperation, the health sector, as well as information and communication technology.

During a series of visits, PM Anwar is also scheduled to visit the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta at the invitation of ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn. There, he will deliver a speech representing Malaysia as chairman of ASEAN this year, affirming his commitment to regional integration and community development of ASEAN.

This visit was also accompanied by a number of Malaysian cabinet ministers, namely Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek.

Two heads of Malaysian state governments on the island of Kalimantan, Premier Sarawak Abang Johari Openg and Minister Sabah Hajiji Noor, are also scheduled to accompany PM Anwar on this visit.
