JAKARTA - Saudi Arabia's Landmine Clearing Project, known as Masam and launched by Saudi Arabia's aid agency KSrelief, has successfully destroyed more than 4,600 war-resistant explosive devices in Yemen.
The operation took place last month in the Wadi Dufs area, Zinjibar, in Kegubernuran Abyan, east of the Yemeni de facto capital, Aden.
The project reported the destruction of 4,620 ammunition and remnants of war, including 155 projectiles, 235 combat rifles, 85 armored booster ammunition, 4,096 bullets, 13 anti-personnel mines, five anti-tank mines, and 31 grenades, quoted from Arab News July 20.
The Masam project added that its efforts were aimed at increasing public security and protecting the lives of civilians in Yemen.
Munther Qassem's engineer, the first special task force commander in Masam said the operation had been carried out in a safe area, away from settlements and agricultural areas, ensuring full compliance with international standards.
"The work of a special task force team does not stop throughout the year, given the importance of our mission to protect the lives of innocent civilians," he explained.
Qassem added that the team had successfully carried out the operation even though the temperature was high and the terrain was steep in Abyan.
