JAKARTA The polemic regarding the demand for a reduction in the cut in online motorcycle taxi applications (ojol) to 10% continues to heat up. The Association of Ojol Garda Indonesia Drivers and the Aplikator Victim alliance regretted the steps taken by the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) which was considered to have sparked conflict between fellow ojol drivers in the Forum Group Discussion (FGD) on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

In the FGD held by the Ministry of Transportation, there were several applicator companies, representatives of ministries and institutions, practitioners, and academics. The discussion discussed a comprehensive study of the amount of motorcycle taxi application which is ideal for driver-partners.

Suara Consumer's explanation stated that ojol drivers are included in the consumer category protected by the Consumer Protection Act. They highlighted the app's cut-off scheme into three zones: zone 1 by 10%, zone 2 by 15%, and zone 3 by 10%. The results of academic studies and surveys concluded that the average app cut should not exceed 11.6%.

However, the FGD actually turned into chaos when the support group and the attackers for the 10% cut were involved in arguments to physical clashes outside the event location. The chaos was triggered by inequality in the composition of the invitees, where of the 16 invited ojol driver associations, only two supported the decline in app cuts to 10%, while the other 14 refused.

"We deeply regret the attitude of the Ministry of Transportation which is unfair in inviting representatives of ojol. This triggers divisions among fellow drivers, even physical clashes," said the representative of the Victim of Aplikator in a written statement.

The association also accused the applicator company of being responsible for the riots. They suspect that there was an attempt to provocation by directing the crowd against 10% to intersect with groups supporting the decline in app pieces.

"We ask the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Haji Prabowo Subianto, to intervene. We believe that President Prabowo is taking sides with the people, not with applicators. There have been many ojol drivers who have become victims of this unfavorable discounted policy," the statement added.

The Indonesian Guard Association and the Aplikator Victim alliance urge the government to immediately reduce the cut of the application to 10% for the sake of justice and welfare of ojol drivers who have been the backbone of digital transportation in Indonesia.
