Often Palak Street Vendors, Ormas Persons Arrested By Police Dressed In Thugs Under The Cengkareng Flyover

JL (38), a thug, has again carried out acts of bullying and intimidation against street vendors (PKL) in the area of Jalan Bojong Raya RT 05/01, Rawa Buaya, Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

The incident was reported to the Cengkareng Police. After receiving the report, the police immediately conducted an investigation.

The incident was also caught on an amateur camera. In the video circulating, a man is seen wearing a red-and-white jacket and a red dongker blue hat, intimidating a coffee trader while asking for "security money" and showing a notebook.

Cengkareng Police Chief Kompol Abdul Jana stated, after going viral, the perpetrators were immediately arrested on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. The perpetrator was arrested under a flyover near the Cengkareng traffic light. At this location, the perpetrators usually hang out looking for prey.

"From the hands of the perpetrators, we secured a thick iron handle that was used to threaten the victim," said Kompol Abdul Jana.

Meanwhile, from the information from the two victims with the initials SW and WI, the perpetrators often asked for security money and carried out physical and verbal intimidation.

One of the victims even said that the perpetrator stuck a curve into his cart while asking for cigarettes forcibly.

"The perpetrator's mode is to claim to be a member of a mass organization, ask for security money, and intimidate if the victim does not fulfill the request," he said.

For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code concerning extortion, subsidiary Article 335 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, and Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 related to illegal possession of sharp weapons.

Cengkareng Police appealed to residents not to be afraid to report if they experienced extortion, threats, or other forms of thuggery.
