Pramono Calls New York Walkot Surprised, Jakarta's Congestion Level Drops To 90th World Order

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed the contents of the conversation when he met the Mayor (Walkot) of New York, Eric Adams during his visit to the United States last week.

Pramono admitted that Erick Adam was surprised by the achievement of Jakarta which could reduce the level of congestion.

This condition is seen based on the results of the TomTom Traffic Index survey per 2024 made by a navigation device company from the Netherlands.

In 2024, TomTom revealed that Jakarta is in 90th place in the world's most congested cities. Travel time in Jakarta every 10 kilometers takes about 25 minutes 31 seconds.

"When I bilaterally with the New York Major, I conveyed that and they seem to know that. What I initially wanted to ask was the turn of those who asked, why did Jakarta make that change?" said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, July 22.

Meanwhile, in the same year, New York was in 25th place in the world's most congested city with a travel time of 10 kilometers between 31 minutes and 6 seconds.

Still at the meeting, Pramono revealed that Eric Adams saw urban problems in Jakarta and New York not much different. Jakarta has an area of about 660 square kilometers, while New Tork is 700 square kilometers.

"But there are more people in Jakarta. Jakarta is 11 million in the morning, an increase of 4 million to 15 million during the day. If New York is 8 million, it will add 5 million, so the total is approximately 13 million. So, so almost apple to apple between Jakarta and New York," explained Pramono.

"The issue of metropolitan cities both Jakarta and New York is more or less the same. But how do we choose that policy so that it can have a beneficial impact on the public is the main thing," he continued.
