JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR held a working committee meeting (panja) to discuss 10 Draft Laws (RUU) on Regencies/Cities in the provinces of Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi which discussed administrative boundaries and regional characteristics in the area.

This discussion was carried out to adjust the legal basis for the formation of provinces, regencies/cities that are still based on the 1950 Temporary Basic Law during the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We discussed administrative boundaries and regional characteristics. So the administrative limit is for example one district, how much is the sub-district. Now, because the district has changed, the number of sub-districts will automatically change," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Bahtra Banong at the DPR building, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 22.

"This is only a matter of changing legal status, the old law to the new law," he continued.

Bahtra explained that the discussion of the characteristics of the area in question was related to the border.

"For example, the south is bordered by what district, to the west, to the east, and then related to the characteristics of the area, whether it borders the sea, then mountains, that's about it," he explained.

Even though it was closed, Bahtra emphasized that the committee meeting for the discussion of 10 bills on regencies/cities today did not have anything crucial, only administrative in nature.

"It's just a matter of administrative boundaries, there's nothing crucial," he said.

In the meeting, continued Bahtra, Commission II of the DPR asked the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to pay careful attention to administrative boundaries in the 10 regencies/cities so as not to cause disputes between regions in the future.

"We have indeed asked the government, especially the Ministry of Home Affairs, regarding the boundaries of this region so that there are no inter-regional disputes, both land and islands between districts," he said.

He also revealed that the discussion of the 10 bills was rolled out because most of the regencies/cities in Gorontalo, North Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi Provinces had broken down.

"For example, there are four small examples in Southeast Sulawesi, four of which were Kolaka only Kolaka tok three; East Kolaka; North Kolaka; and then the Main Kolaka. In Konawe it was the same, it was only Konawe, then it bloomed into North Konawe, then South Konawe," he concluded.
