Pramono Claims Jakarta's Transportation Management Is Better Than New York

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung claims that the current management of public transportation in Jakarta is better than New York, United States.

This was revealed by Pramono based on the results of his trip to the city dubbed The Big Apple City last week.

Pramono also met with the Mayor of New Tork, Eric Adams to discuss the management of the city and its transportation system.

"Yesterday I met specifically with the Mayor of New York and also with the New York transportation manager. Now compared to New York, Jakarta is much better," Pramono said when met at Santa Market, South Jakarta, Tuesday, June 22.

Pramono concluded that the condition of traffic management in Jakarta is better than New York based on the results of the TomTom Traffic Index survey as of 2024 made by a navigation device company from the Netherlands.

In 2024, TomTom revealed that Jakarta is in 90th place in the world's most congested cities. Travel time in Jakarta every 10 kilometers takes about 25 minutes 31 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the same year, New York was in 25th place in the world's most congested city with a travel time of 10 kilometers between 31 minutes and 6 seconds.

"In the past, Jakarta was never (already in) the top ten stalled cities, now, New York is still a city of traffic jams, Jakarta is already number 90," explained Pramono.

Pramono saw that the improvement in traffic conditions in Jakarta could occur due to an increase in the affordability of mass public transportation until now.

"We now have MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, KRL, and so on which are better integrated. Hopefully this will be the main support to overcome the problem of congestion in Jakarta," he added.
