JAKARTA - Deputy Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (Wamen P2MI) Christina Aryani said that she would provide protection, data, and competence services for migrant crew members.
This was conveyed after holding a meeting with the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Antoni Arif Priadi at the Ministry of P2MI office.
For data collection, P2MI has proposed to eliminate identity issuance for ABK migrant workers (E-PMI) including sailors in the fisheries and commercial vessels sectors.
"Earlier, we proposed that there be free PMI ID (E-PMI) gifts to sailors who work abroad, who have previously been included in the Ministry of Transportation system. So those who already have sijil (launch support documents) and sailors' books, the data is that all of them will be published ID PMI (E-PMI) for free," said Christina, Monday, July 21.
"How important it is for Indonesian sailors who work abroad to have protection. We proposed the issuance of a free E-PMI," he continued.
In addition to data collection, Christina also wants a promotional collaboration related to the large number of opportunities for the placement of migrant workers abroad by cooperating with the Ministry of Transportation's polytechnics or high schools.
Then, the Ministry of P2MI and the Ministry of Transportation also plan to form a Task Force for the supervision of prospective sailors to depart procedurally.
According to him, this task force is an effort by the two ministries to share perceptions about the affairs of the crew (ABK) working abroad.
"So that it is not only the perception at the policy maker level, but it can be translated the same by the team at the Ministry of P2MI and the Ministry of Transportation," explained Christina.

Not only that, the Deputy Minister of P2MI and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation also discussed collaborative plans related to improving the competence of Shipping Vocational Schools in Indonesia.
The reason is that this shipping SMK is also equipped with basic safety training (BST) competencies which will make it easier for graduates to work as sailors/ABK abroad.
"Well, later we will help facilitate talks with the Ministry of Education and Culture (Basic and Secondary Education)," said Christina.
