JAKARTA - The Palestinian Bedouin accused Israeli settlers of killing 117 sheep in an attack overnight and stealing hundreds of other sheep in an attempt to expel farmers from their land in the occupied West Bank.
The incident comes amid what the United Nations described this week as an escalating attack by Jewish settlers and security forces on Palestinians in the West Bank and record mass evacuations.
The Israeli army did not respond to requests for comment on the mass massacre of animals belonging to the al-Kaab strange Arab Bedouin community in the Jordan Valley.
Veterinarians are called in to treat some sheep that survived the attack of knives and firearms. Some sheep looked shaking out of control and looked shocked.
Salem Salman Mujahed, a resident of Arab al-Kaab strange, said several coordinated cooperation groups had organized the attack, and accused the army of remaining silent.
"(The settlers) came close to the houses. I asked them what you were doing here, then we started fighting," he said.
"The army held me back, and they handcuffed me," he continued.
Salem Salman said another group of settlers then attacked the sheep, which was very important to the survival of his community.
Reuters was unable to independently verify who was responsible for the attack.

Palestinian Minister Moayad Shaaban condemned the incident, calling it part of a broader strategy to expel Palestinians from the region.
"These dombas and animals were slaughtered and shot," he told Reuters.
"They use these tools to scare people into leaving the area, which has been inhabited for decades," he added.
The attack prompted at least one family to start moving.
Tareq Kaab strange, a Bedouin, said he could no longer stand the so-called intimidation of settlers.
"They were armed, they stole donkeys and sheep. At night they came here and started shooting at us," said Kaab strange.
"I'm moving now, I want to protect my children and sheep, my livelihood... yesterday I was safe, but I don't know what will happen to me tomorrow," he continued.
