High School Students In Garut Hang Themselves After Not Upgrading, The Issue Of Suspicion Of Bullying

Garut Resort Police conducted an investigation into the death of a State High School student in Garut Regency, West Java, who allegedly died from suicide.

The head of the Garut Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Joko Prihatin, confirmed that his party had conducted a crime scene (TKP) following a report related to the incident.

"It is suspected that he committed suicide," Joko said by telephone, Thursday, July 17, 2025.

According to him, the 16-year-old victim was found dead hanging himself at his home on Monday, July 14, 2025. After receiving the report, the police immediately dispatched an Inafis Team to conduct a crime scene investigation.

"The results of the crime scene did not find any signs of violence. Temporary suspicions led to suicide," said Joko.

However, the cause of the victim's action is still under investigation. The police are gathering evidence and information from a number of parties, including from the victim's family.

"For the exact cause, we are still conducting further investigations," he added.

Responding to the growing issue on social media that the victim was experiencing bullying at the school, Joko said that his party had not been able to conclude this.

"It cannot be concluded. We are still investigating through the investigation process," he said.

The death of the class X student received attention from the Garut Regency Government, which had asked for clarification from the school. Allegations of bullying that were being discussed by the public were immediately responded to by the school.

The school denied any bullying, but confirmed that the victim did not advance to class because seven subjects had not been completed. Previously, the school had also submitted the information to the victim's parents and requested that values be corrected immediately.
