P2I Files, 10 Mining Challenge Suspects In East Halmahera Wait For Session Schedule

JAKARTA - The North Maluku Regional Police (Polda) handed over 10 suspects and evidence of a mining obstruction case using sharp weapons to the Tidore District Attorney (Kejari).

"Before the second phase (delegation to the Prosecutor's Office) was carried out on the ten suspects, investigators had carried out a health check carried out at the Bhayangkara Hospital of the North Maluku Police," said Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Police, Kombes Pol Bambang Suharyono in Ternate, Wednesday, July 16, confiscated by Antara.

Bambang explained that the 10 suspects were AS, SM, JH, HD, YHS, II, SA, DB, UM and NS.

Meanwhile, the evidence submitted included 9 machetes, 1 knife, 1 blue tarpaulin, 1 brown tarpaulin, 10 pieces of wood, 1 flash drive containing video and 1 red and white flag with images of the moon and star.

In handing over the suspect and the evidence, the Prosecutor from the North Maluku High Prosecutor's Office also attended.

"After a phase II examination of the suspects and evidence at the Tidore Kejari, investigators took the suspects to the Class IIB Soasio detention house," he explained.

The suspects are suspected of Article 2 paragraph 1 of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 and or Article 162 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning mineral and coal mining.

As is known, the people in East Halmahera held a demonstration at PT Position for allegedly carrying out illegal mining activities in the Maba District, East Halmahera, on Friday, May 16, 2025.

They accused mining companies of clearing land for transport roads and extracting nickel mineral materials in the production forest area.
