The Attorney General's Office (AGO) revealed that the alleged corruption case in the procurement of a chromebook laptop at the Ministry of Education and Culture for the 2019-2022 period cost the state Rp 1.98 trillion. Four people have been named as suspects.
"As a result of this act, the state suffered a loss of Rp 1.98 trillion," said Jampidsus Investigation Director Abdul Qohar at a press conference at the AGO, South Jakarta, Tuesday, July 15 evening.
Qohar said investigators had examined 80 witnesses and three experts and collected a number of physical and electronic documents (laptops, cellphones, hard drives, flash disks) from various places related to the chromebook case.
Investigators then held a case and found sufficient preliminary evidence in determining the four suspects.
"Against the four people, based on sufficient evidence, at night the investigator named the person concerned as a suspect," he said.
The four suspects are:1. Mulyatsyah, former director of SMP Kemendikbudristek. 2. Sri Wahyuningsih, former principal director of Kemendikbudristek.3. Ibrahim Arief, a technology consultant at the Ministry of Education and Culture. 4. Jurist Tan, a former special staff member of the Ministry of Education and Culture (currently still abroad).
Qohar explained that the case began when the Ministry of Education and Culture carried out the procurement of information and communication technology (ICT) devices at the PAUD to SMA level in 2020-2022 for underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas as many as 1.2 million chromebook laptops with a total budget of IDR 9.3 trillion sourced from the APBN and special allocation funds (DAK).
According to him, Minister of Education and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim ordered the procurement of laptops with Chrome OS software. Even though teachers and students find it difficult to use the laptop optimally.
Qohar explained that the suspects collaborated by making implementation instructions so that the laptop used in the education digitization program was based on the chromebook operating system.
This step is considered not as needed in the field, considering that the use of chromebooks is very dependent on the internet connection. In fact, internet access in many parts of Indonesia has not been evenly distributed.

The AGO stated that the purpose of procuring ICT devices in the form of 1.2 million chromebook laptops for school students was not achieved because Chrome OS had many weaknesses for the 3T area, so the suspect's actions were considered detrimental to state finances.
The four suspects in the chromebook case were charged with Article 2 or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Crime Inspection Law (Tipikor) in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
