Puan Calls The Constitutional Court's Decision On Election Separation Not In Accordance With The Constitution

Chairman of the PDIP DPP Puan Maharani said the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the separation of national and local elections or regions was not in accordance with the Basic Law.

This was stated by Puan when revealing the results of the internal discussion of the PDIP DPP.

"We all discussed that the Constitutional Court's decision was not in accordance with the basic law," said Puan at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 15.

Puan said that the law regulates that elections must be held once every five years. "Because it is in accordance with the law, elections are once every 5 years," he said.

Previously, Puan also stated that the factions in the DPR were reviewing the results of the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which decided to separate the national and regional elections (elections).

"All parties, we are also leaders consisting of political parties that are still reviewing, related to decisions within each other and later of course this decision will have an effect on all parties," said Puan at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday, July 4.

Puan emphasized that the DPR will review the results of the Constitutional Court's decision before deciding what steps to take. Because the Constitutional Court's decision has an effect on the Election Law and political parties, including those in the DPR.

"As a political party, we will hold a coordination meeting whether it is formal or informal together, talk together, express our opinion together regarding the Constitutional Court's decision," explained Puan.

Puan also said that her faction, namely PDIP, was still waiting for the results of the study before acting, including whether the Constitutional Court's decision violated the 1945 Constitution or not. Because, said Puan, in the mandate of the 1945 Constitution it is regulated that elections are held every 5 years.

"We are still reviewing this, whether then there are things that are violated in accordance with the Basic Law," he said.

"Because elections are in accordance with the Constitution every five years," added Puan.
