The Smuggling Of 14.87 Kg Of Methamphetamine In Riau Was Thwarted By The Police, 2 Couriers Were Arrested

RIAU - Riau Regional Police (Polda) thwarted 15 large packs of methamphetamine from two couriers with the initials S (38) and RAM (26).

The Director of Drug Investigation at the Riau Police, Police Commissioner Putu Yudha Prawira, explained that the disclosure of the case stemmed from public information about a car carrying methamphetamine to West Sumatra.

"The team immediately conducted an investigation and found a vehicle on Jalan Cipta Karya Ujung, Mining District. When searched, a total of 15 large packs of crystal methamphetamine were found in the trunk of the car and a small pack in RAM's spare bag," Putu said at a press conference at the Riau Police Headquarters, Pekanbaru, Wednesday, July 9, confiscated by Antara.

The arrests, which coincided with Bhayangkara Day July 1, 2025, also confiscated a car, three cell phones of IDR 1.6 million in cash, and a bag containing a small plastic clip containing methamphetamine.

Based on the results of the interrogation, the suspect was ordered by a person with the initials MF to take methamphetamine at the location and the plan was to be delivered to Padang City, West Sumatra.

Currently, MF has entered the wanted list, including the person who ordered the illicit goods.

According to him, couriers and recipients of goods did not meet. This network only provides coordinates for the drug pick-up transaction.

"Because their work system is a bit unique, namely not meeting, between land couriers, then recipients do not meet. Only the location system, then given a coordinate point, is then picked up by an unknown person by suspect S and RAM," he explained.

As a result of their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 114 Paragraph (2) and Article 112 Paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 Year 2009 concerning narcotics, with the threat of a maximum penalty of death.
