The Threat Of Forest And Land Fire Is Still Lurking At West Aceh Even Though It Is Raining

MEULABOH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded people in the western coast of Aceh to be aware of the potential for natural disasters in the form of forest and land fires (karhutla), which can still occur throughout July 2025.

"Based on satellite imagery observations, the Aceh area is currently still in the dry season, so the potential for land fires can still occur," said Meulaboh-Nagan Raya BMKG Station forecaster Almira Aprilianti, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 9.

Although in the last two days there has been heavy rain in the western coast of Aceh, he said, this condition was caused by the convergence of wind around the Aceh region.

This convergence then led to an increase in the mass of water vapor, so that convective clouds formed which caused moderate to heavy rain for the next few days, especially in the southern west coast of Aceh.

Despite being in the dry season during July 2025, said Almira Aprilianti, BMKG appealed to people in West Aceh, Nagan Raya, and surrounding areas not to burn land while clearing land.

Given the impact of the dry season and the high air temperature in Aceh can result in a land fire disaster like the one that has occurred since the last few days.

In addition, the public is also advised to always be aware of the dry season, by not burning garbage or throwing cigarette butts in any place because it can cause fires.

Almira said that according to satellite imagery observations in July 2025, most of Aceh's southern west coast areas were still in dry season conditions and there was no potential for heavy rain.

However, due to the weather anomaly, it resulted in heavy rain with moderate and light intensity.

"In general, this July Aceh is still in the dry season phase, even if it rains suddenly, this happens due to weather anomalies. People are advised to remain vigilant because of forest and land fires," said Almira Aprilianti.
