MAKASSAR A young mother with the initials N (25) who is suspected of killing her two-month-old baby is now undergoing a psychiatric examination at Dadi Regional Special Hospital (RSKD), Makassar, South Sulawesi.
The woman became public attention after her alleged action was carried out in her room on Jalan Pampang II, Lorong V, Panakukang District, on Friday night, July 4.
Head of the Rapid Response Team (TRC) of the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (DP3A) UPT PPA Makassar, Makmur Payabo, revealed that the perpetrators showed signs of mental disorders from the beginning of case handling.
"The perpetrator in this case is his own biological mother. He has been admitted to Dadi Hospital (Siwa Hospital). It is related that from the start there is indeed an oddity, from the look on his face and the way he talks," said Makmur, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday 9 July.
Temporary suspicion, the perpetrator was under heavy psychological pressure. Based on the results of the initial observation, he showed unstable behavior "sometimes quiet, then suddenly spoke or looked empty.
"The results of the doctor's observation at the Mental Hospital do have indications whose name is 'baby blues', which is a common emotional condition after giving birth. However, it is possible that later there will be more serious allegations such as psychopaths," he added.
The perpetrator is known to have hit the baby's head using a jar to cause death. Even though he has been named a suspect by the police, UPT PPA Makassar City stated that it will still monitor the condition of the perpetrator and prepare legal assistance.
"When he is mentally disturbed, then we continue to monitor and visit the hospital, see the progress. Because we know, this perpetrator has never admitted to killing his son," explained Makmur.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Panakukang Police, Iptu Muhammad Rijal, confirmed that the perpetrator had been named a suspect after an investigation and examination of a number of witnesses.
"We are still investigating this case. The determination of the suspect has been carried out, but the statements of the perpetrators are still changing. Sometimes he admits, sometimes he doesn't," said Rijal.
