BANDUNG - Bandung City Government ensures that Teras Cihampelas will not be dismantled, but will be renovated and maintained in a sustainable manner.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the decision was the result of a legal, technical, and consideration study of the benefits of public assets and a mature budget.

The demolition discourse did exist since I was sworn in. But I can't just decide. It must be studied legally, in terms of benefits, and losses. After the appraisal, the current value of Teras Cihampelas reaches Rp80 billion," said Farhan as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 8.

Farhan said the appraisal itself aims to measure the extent of the losses suffered, which are then used to determine appropriate compensation or compensation, one of which is government assets.

According to him, because the asset value is more than IDR 5 billion and is still functioning, demolition is not recommended in terms of law and governance.

"If the assets belong to the region are above Rp. 5 billion and still have a function, they should not be dismantled. The legal and political processes are long, and the risk is big," he said.

He also mentioned that if the demolition process was carried out, it would at least take up to six months. Meanwhile, during that period, no maintenance can be carried out, and the assets will be even more neglected.

"If it is dismantled, during the six months the process is running, treatment cannot be carried out. And the risk, it can even violate the law," said Farhan.

With the decision not to be dismantled, the Bandung City Government will focus on routine maintenance and better utilization.

The Mayor of Bandung said that starting this year and beyond, special budgets will always be prepared to keep Teras Cihampelas safe, bright, and comfortable for the community.

"I make sure, every year there will be a budget for the maintenance, security, and lighting of the Cihampelas Terrace. So that this place remains useful for residents and tourists," he said.

Farhan also said that this treatment would be carried out across agencies, not just one party. Several agencies will be involved, including DSDABM, Dishub, Cooperatives and SMEs Service, Satpol PP, Disbudpar, DPKP, and Social Service.

"With this renovation and treatment, it is hoped that Teras Cihampelas can return to become a representative, safe and comfortable public space for all people of Bandung City and visitors from outside the region," he said.
