The 2025 BRICS Summit Becomes A New History Of Indonesian Diplomacy

JAKARTA - Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia Teddy Indra Wijaya said Indonesia's presence at the 2025 BRICS Summit (KTT) in Brazil is a new history of Indonesian foreign relations.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has completed a series of activities at the 2025 BRICS Summit which was held for two days on July 6, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

President Prabowo's presence in this forum marks Indonesia's official participation for the first time as a full member of BRICS since it was received in early January this year.

"So today and yesterday, on Sunday 6th, then now on Monday 7th, July 2025, Mr. President Prabowo Subianto attended the BRICS Summit," explained Seskab Teddy in Rio de Janeiro, citing the website of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Tuesday, July 8.

Secretary Teddy revealed that Indonesia's participation in this year's BRICS Summit is an important milestone in the history of Indonesia's foreign relations.

"This means that there is a new history of Indonesia officially participating in the BRICS Summit for the first time. And this is an initiation from the President," he continued.

According to Seskab Teddy, in the same year Indonesia was accepted and supported by BRICS member countries before finally officially joining as full members.

Membership in BRICS, which previously consisted of five countries, has now developed with Indonesia as the 10th official member.

"From the beginning the BRICS 5 countries, then developed so that Indonesia became the official member 10 out of 11. So one Saudi Arabian is not yet official," he explained.

"The president has always embraced too few friends, there are too many enemies. So how can Indonesia collaborate, then as many as possible join organizations, so this is one of them that we join," explained Seskab Teddy.

He added that BRICS currently represents almost half of the world's population and accounts for about 35 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP).

"Earlier, there were 28 countries and Heads of State, Heads of Government. So 10 members of BRICS, then there were 10 partners countries, then there were 8 guests. And there are a lot of people queuing up to enter BRICS. And this shows that Indonesia is being heard, increasingly being considered, increasingly viewed, and increasingly needed in the global world," he concluded.
