JAKARTA - The Bengkulu High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) revealed that the state losses incurred from mining corruption cases that violated mining business permits (IUP) and forest additional in two areas in Bengkulu Province reached Rp300 billion.

"The value of the loss reached Rp. 300 billion, after being calculated based on a combination of various aspects, ranging from environmental damage to other administrative violations," said Head of the Investigation Section of the Bengkulu Attorney General's Office, Danang Prasetyo, in Bengkulu City, Monday, July 7, as reported by Antara.

The estimated state loss was based on the results of a team of experts at the public accounting firm (KAP), environmental experts, and the scientific evidence team.

With this state loss, Bengkulu Attorney General's Office investigators have confiscated assets, namely two coal mining sites belonging to PT Ratu Samban Mining (RSM) located in Bang Haji District and Taba Penanjung District, Central Bengkulu Regency.

He said that the confiscation of assets at the coal mine site with a total area of 7,000 hectares was carried out as part of the investigation into the alleged corruption case in the mining sector. "This confiscation process has received a determination from the Chairman of the Arga Makmur District Court and a warrant from the Bengkulu Attorney General's Office. Based on the two legal grounds, we confiscated two mines belonging to PT RSM," he said.

Danang said that the confiscation of the assets of the coal mine site was carried out because investigators found indications of unlawful acts and abuse of authority that violated the IUP which caused an increase in forest areas. "We found illegal mining activities and irregularities from the permits they had. These activities were even carried out in protected forest areas without legal permits," he said.

Previously, the Bengkulu Special Prosecutor's Office investigator team had examined dozens of witnesses related to the alleged corruption case of mining outside the IUP point and forest additions in two areas in Bengkulu Province.

One of the dozens of witnesses examined was former Central Bengkulu Regent Ferry Ramli, Commissioner of PT Tunas Bara Jaya Bebby Hussy and Director of PT Tunas Bara Jaya Julius Soh.
