JAKARTA UIN political observer Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Zaki Mubarak advised the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, not to be too involved in issues that are the domain of executive institutions to avoid impressions like Luhut Binsar Panjaitan (LBP) in the era of President Joko Widodo.

"LBP cases that are too dominant in the Jokowi era can be an example. The public tends to lack respect for politicians who are fussy in many affairs. So it's better if Dasco needs to be smart in holding back, so that he doesn't get too aggressive and ambitious," he said, Sunday, July 6, 2025.

He admitted that Dasco's current position could be likened to President Prabowo Subianto's gold son. This is because Dasco, who is also the daily chairman of the Gerindra Party, is given space to move freely to consolidate Prabowo's political power.

"Many big problems have been delegated to him. One of the important points from Dasco is his ability to approach all parties. He is close to important people, from Habib Rizieq to Megawati, including critical groups," added Zaki.

In addition, Dasco is also known to be close to the general chairmen of political parties who can be seen from his involvement in lobbying to resolve complicated issues in the realm of practical politics. "This is a credit point for Dasco so that Prabowo believes," he said.

According to Zaki, in the midst of Indonesia's multiparty political dynamics and heating up after the 2024 presidential election, the figure of Dasco could help Prabowo create a shady political situation. Because, he is a figure who carries Prabowo's mission to various parties, especially for matters related to the political elite.

This is what makes despite his status as a member of the DPR, Dasco is often believed to be Prabowo's extension to reduce conflicts, bridge communication between institutions, and sometimes provide clarification on executive policies.

"This special position makes Dasco's current influence quite large compared to other DPR leaders. Dasco seems more agile in his political maneuvers. People read Prabowo's policies through Dasco," he explained.

As is known, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, often shows his strategic role in the circle of power. Finally, he was also present when the government delivered a decision regarding the dispute over four islands between the Aceh Provincial Government and North Sumatra at the Presidential Palace, some time ago.
