JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) will tighten supervision of the waste management system in the North Jakarta area in the near future.
This effort was carried out as part of a major urban waste management plan as a whole, involving various parties including regional manufacturers and managers.
"All areas of North Jakarta are now under direct supervision from the Governor of DKI Jakarta and we are in the ministry. The focus is to accelerate the handling of waste problems in this area," said LHK Minister, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, during a working visit to Mall of Indonesia (MOI), North Jakarta, Sunday, as quoted by ANTARA.
He mentioned that North Jakarta was chosen as a national pilot area in an integrated waste management program. If this program is successfully implemented in the area, a similar method will be applied in other regions in Indonesia. The government targets all waste to be processed 100 percent without remaining to the Final Processing Site (TPA) in 2029.

"If we can fix North Jakarta, other areas will be much easier to overcome," said Hanif.
North Jakarta is a priority because the character of its complex area has a high population density and a combination of land and coastal areas that pose challenges to its own environment.
In the near future, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry plans to summon various stakeholders, from industry players to shopping area managers, to jointly find solutions and design a more effective waste management system.
"We have arranged this agenda with the Governor of DKI. We want real action and collaboration between parties," added Hanif.
According to data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), the total waste generation in DKI Jakarta throughout 2024 reached more than 3.1 million tons, and North Jakarta contributed more than 509 thousand tons of which.
The average daily waste production in the capital city reaches around 8,000 tons, with the majority of the waste still being sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST).
