The South Lampung Regency Resort Police (Polres) managed to arrest the perpetrator of the murder of a travel driver whose body was found on Jalan Canal Ryacudu in Kota Baru on Sunday (29/6).

"The arrest of the perpetrators was carried out on Friday (4/7) by a joint team from Tekab 308 Polda Lampung, South Lampung Police, and Jati Agung Police," said South Lampung Police Chief AKBP Yusriandi Yusrin, in South Lampung, Saturday.

He explained that the murder incident was known to have occurred on Sunday (29/6) at around 06.00 WIB on Jalan Canal Ryacudu, Gedung Agung Village, Jati Agung. The victim was found dead in a plantation near a bridge in the local area.

"Meanwhile, a silver Toyota Agya car belonging to the victim was reported missing and was taken away by the perpetrator," he said.

Then, he continued, after receiving reports from the public regarding the incident, members of the police immediately carried out a series of investigations into the perpetrator named Ujang Syafruddin.

"After receiving information regarding the whereabouts of the police perpetrator, he immediately conducted a search at the family's house in Jati Agung, South Lampung and secured Ujang Syafruddin," he said.

He explained that based on the perpetrator's confession, the motive for the murder was allegedly because he was offended by the victim's words while in the car.

"The victim allegedly said a sentence that was considered insulting to the perpetrator's physical condition, thus triggering the perpetrator's emotions to commit acts of violence," he said.

He said during the arrest, the police also secured a number of pieces of evidence, including one unit of the victim's Oppo A1K cellphone, one unit of Toyota Agya BE 1077 JH, as well as various personal belongings of the perpetrator, including the identity and membership card of a mining company.

"For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with theft and violence until the victim died with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison or a sentence of death," he said.
