JAKARTA - The Kremlin said on Friday Russia was watching all of Donald Trump's statements after the US President said he was "deeply disappointed" with his last conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the war in Ukraine.
President Trump, who confidently stated last week that President Putin was "trying to resolve" the conflict, said after Thursday's phone call, he did not think the Russian leader was trying to stop him.
When asked about the comments, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "Of course, we are watching all of President Trump's statements," as reported by Reuters on July 4.
However, Peskov did not respond to Trump's implied criticism of Putin.
Trump, who returned to the White House in January with the promise to immediately end Ukraine's "bloodshed", said after Thursday's phone call: "I'm not making any progress with him at all."
Peskov said President Putin had told President Trump Russia would prefer to achieve its goals in Ukraine through political and diplomatic means, but meanwhile it would continue what he called a "special military operation".
