BANYUWANGI - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of Banyuwangi, East Java, deployed a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) ship to search for victims of a passenger motor ship sinking in the Bali Strait.

Banyuwangi SAR Post Coordinator Wahyu Setia Budi said the local Basarnas was trying to search for dozens of KMP passengers, Tunu Pratama Jaya, shortly after receiving information on the sinking of the ferry on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route.

"However, until now we have not found the ship's passengers, and there are also weather and wave constraints in the Bali Strait, reaching about 2.5 meters, making it difficult for the SAR team," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 3.

In addition to the Banyuwangi Basarnas deploying RIB ships to search for victims of the sinking ship, Wahyu conveyed that the Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP) also dispatched ships to search.

"We are also assisted by the Denpasar Basarnas and the Jembrana SAR Post (Bali) to search for victims of the sinking ship," said Wahyu Setia Budi.

The Passenger Motorboat (KMP) Tunu Pratama Jaya carrying 53 passengers and 12 crew members sank in the Bali Strait, on Wednesday (2/7) night at around 23.35 WIB.

KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya departed from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi Regency at around 22.56 WIB to Gilimanuk Port, Jembrana Regency, Bali.

Wahyu said the data on the number of passengers or manifests of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya carried 53 passengers, 12 crew members and 22 vehicles.
