JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended the commemoration ceremony of the 79th Bhayangkara Day which was held at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta.

The ceremony was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto as the ceremony inspector, as well as high state officials, the ranks of the TNI-Polri, and other national figures.

In commemoration of the National Police's anniversary this year, Puan reminded the police to be closer to the people and make social justice the main direction of service. He also reminded the strength of the Police to be in the people's trust.

"The true power of the National Police does not lie in the authority or weapons, but in the trust of the people. The National Police must be closer to the community and make social justice the main direction in service," said Puan, Tuesday, July 1.

Puan hopes that the theme of Bhayangkara Day in 2025, namely 'Police Service for the Community' can be interpreted in depth as a policy direction, not just a slogan. Because according to him, the National Police is currently facing a big challenge to become an institution that is truly present to protect citizens, side with the weak, and act fairly in all situations.

"People not only need a sense of security, but also justice that touches their daily lives from small problems in the village to structural crimes," he said.

Puan also emphasized the importance of the transformation of the Police to get closer to the people. According to her, participatory, dialogical, and preventive approaches need to be strengthened in every line of police services.

"When a farmer, fisherman, daily laborer, or housewife feels comfortable complaining to the police station without fear, that's when the Police have really become the protector of the people," said Puan.

He considered that the success of the National Police's service depended on the presence and services felt directly by the community. Therefore, Puan hopes that the Police can work professionally.

"The measure of the success of the National Police is not only the statistics of arrests, but how deep their presence is felt in the lives of ordinary citizens," said Puan.

Puan expressed her appreciation to all members of the National Police who have been working tirelessly in maintaining security and order stability in the community.

"We give the highest appreciation to every member of the National Police who continues to carry out his duties with high dedication and conscience. We understand that the task on the ground is not easy, especially in the midst of limitations and pressure," said Puan.

Puan also encouraged the National Police institution to continue to open up space for updates and internal corrections.

"The Police's reform must go comprehensively to touch aspects of the supervisory system, transparency, increased professionalism, to improving the welfare of personnel," he said.

Puan also emphasized that the DPR through its supervisory, budget, and legislative functions will continue to encourage increased performance within the National Police. He hopes that the Police will have more integrity and side with the people in carrying out their functions and duties.

"Happy 79th Bhayangkara Day to all police officers in Indonesia. Make this moment a reminder that the strength of the Police does not lie in its weapons or authority, but in the trust of the people who are served with fair sincerity. A strong Polri is the Police who are loved and trusted by the people," he concluded.
