PALEMBANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of South Sumatra Province (Sumsel) appealed to residents of Palembang City to be aware of the foggy weather with a low low range of sight below 1,500 meters.

Head of the Data and Information Unit of BMKG SMB II Palembang Sinta Andayani said the air brightness that occurred this morning was triggered by high humidity of 99 percent to form a thin fog (Mist).

The fog condition is also mixed with dry particles or pollution in the city of Palembang so that it is getting denser and lowers visibility.

Meanwhile, based on weather observation data at the airport, the lowest visibility is 1500 meters. However, for visibility in densely populated cities, it could be lower due to dry particles or higher pollution.

According to him, the fog is water vapor which becomes water points and then floats and floats on the ground.

This phenomenon usually occurs in the early hours of the morning because high humidity is approaching saturation with low air temperatures on the surface.

Sometimes the fog can be triggered by rain at night or before which causes the air temperature to drop and moist in the morning.

Usually along with the rise of the sun in the morning, the fog gradually disappears because the air temperature slowly rises and the humidity decreases.

"Stick fog can affect visibility so it needs to be watched out for when doing activities, especially on land transportation while driving, air transportation when taking off and landing planes, as well as water transportation for passing ships," he said.
