JAKARTA - Airline Qatar Airways managed to get out as the best airline this year by Skytrax, in addition to winning a number of other award categories.

Qatar Airways was named the winner of this year's Skytrax World Airline Awards on the sidelines of last week's Paris Air Show.

This is the ninth time Qatar Airways has won an award known as the world's Oscar of aviation since it was first held in 1999.

In addition, Qatar Airways has also been named the Best Aviation Airlines in the Middle East, World's Best Business Class, and the Best Business Class Aviation Airline Waiting Room for this year.

"This recognition is more than just an award, it's a celebration of the passion, accuracy, and purpose that defines who we are as airlines," said Qatar Airways Group Badr CEO Mohammed Al-Meer.

"Maintaining this title in a highly competitive and growing global industry reflects relentless efforts in every part of the business, from the front lines to behind the scenes, the enthusiasm and commitment of our employees to continue setting new standards in flight."

The award was given shortly after the airline, which was founded in 1993, announced purchases of up to 210 wide-body jets, including 130 Dreamliners, and 30 777-9 from Boeing in a historic order last month.

"This award reaffirms our ambition to not only lead, but also redefine the meaning of extraordinary service in flight," Al-Meer explained.

"Both on land and in the air, we strive to provide a smooth and pleasant journey that anticipates the needs of our passengers and reflects the highest standards of quality, comfort, and innovation," he added.

Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines, World's Best Aviation Airlines award winner five times, took second place this year, and won the award for the World's Best Cabinet Crew, along with World's Best First Class and Best Aviation Airlines in Asia.

Hong Kong national airline Cathay Pacific is in third place, followed by Emirates airlines from Dubai in fourth place, and ANA All Nippon Airways from Japan in fifth place.

Next there is Turkish Airlines in sixth position, while seventh position is won by South Korean Air national airline and French national airline Air France in eighth position.

Finally, Japan Airlines is in ninth position and Hainan Airlines from China completes the top 10.

"We welcome back a large number of previous winners and also happy to see the new faces and airlines who are here today," said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted.

"As many previous winning airlines have shown, consistency in quality is clearly recognized by customers when they voted for this airline."

The "fully independent and impartial" award, which began in 1999, saw votes collected from a survey of around 22.3 million subscribers, with more than 325 airlines displayed this year.

About 500 representatives from airlines around the world attended a gala event at the Art Deco terminal that had been restored at the original Le Bourget Airport, located at the heart of the Paris Air Show, including the president, CEO and airline crew.

AirAsia is also among the winners, having been named the World's Low-Best Low-cost Airlines, an award the airline has won from year to year since 2010.

"Winning the World's Best Low-cost Airline Award for 16 consecutive years is a great thing," said AirAsia CEO and co-founder Tony Fernandes.

"From flying just 200,000 passengers in the first year to targeting to welcome passengers to one billion this year, this journey was made possible by the unshakable support of our guests, and the tireless dedication of our extraordinary Allstars," he continued.

Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic won the award as the World's Best Premium Economic Class airline 2025, while Bangkok Airways from Thailand was named the World's Best Regional Airlines for nine consecutive years.

Low-cost airline IndiGo won the award as the Best Airlines in India/South Asia, and the Best Low-cost airline award in the region.

And Air Canada not only won the Best Airlines award in North America, their Toronto Pearson Signature Suite also won the award as Best Business Class Lounge Restaurant.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia Airlines has been named the Best Airlines in Africa for the seventh year and Turkish Airlines has been named the Best Airlines in Europe, as well as the World's Best Business Class and Aircraft Category in Southern Europe.

Saudi Arabia's national airline, formerly known as Saudi Arabia Airlines, won the award as the Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East.

"This award reflects the dedication of our extraordinary frontline team and the trust of our guests," said Ibrahim Al-Omar of the Saudia Group.

"While we celebrate this milestone, our journey continues with a bold investment and a clear vision to become one of the leading airlines in the world," he added.
