JAKARTA - Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi regretted Iran's withdrawal from the Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
"This is of course very unfortunate. I hope this doesn't happen. I don't think this will help anyone," Grossi said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, June 26.
Grossi warned it also led to "isolation" of the relevant countries and seriously weakening the credibility and effectiveness of the NPT agreement.
Regarding Iran's high supply of uranium after the latest conflict with Israel, Grossi said "this is a top priority to be able to return to the location to assess the situation."
"We have to go back, and come back with the supervisors to these places is not easy. So I will try to get back involved with them as soon as possible," said Grossi.
Grossi's remarks came after Iran's parliament on Wednesday morning approved the suspension of cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog, one day after the US-proposed ceasefire with Israel came into effect.
"Iran's Atomic Energy Organization will suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency to the security of our nuclear facilities is guaranteed," Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, spokesman for parliament, said in a statement quoted by Fars News Agency.
