JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian spoke about the hectic news on social media regarding the sale of small islands in the Riau Islands which are marketed online.

Tito stated that his party had formed a special team from the Regional Administration Directorate to investigate the truth of the information. This team will later investigate allegations of island sales transactions in the Anambas Islands Regency which are widely spread online.

"We have formed a team to check the information. If it is true that someone sold the island illegally, then we will take firm action in accordance with applicable regulations," said Tito Karnavian, Tuesday, June 24.

Tito emphasized that the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia cannot be moved or traded carelessly. He also appealed to the public not to easily believe in information on the sale of state assets, especially small islands that have strategic sovereign boundaries.

Previously, the public was surprised by the viral upload featuring a number of small islands in the Riau Islands region, especially in the Anambas area, which is offered to be sold online by unknown parties. This information sparked concerns about potential violations of the law on the sovereignty of Indonesian territory.

The central government is now investigating who is responsible for the sales advertisement and ensuring there are no legal loopholes that can be used for certain purposes.
