JAKARTA - Russia supports a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, but it is difficult to say whether it will last long, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.
Israel launched airstrikes in the "Raising Lion" operation on June 13 which it claimed targeted Iranian nuclear and military facilities. Tehran responded to that by launching attacks on a number of targets in Israeli cities.
On June 21, the United States launched a "Midnight Hammer" operation on the targets of Iran's nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. Iran responded to that by attacking US military bases in the Middle East.
Late Monday, the Iranian Armed Forces launched airstrikes targeting the US-owned Al-Udeid airbase in Qatar in the "Promise of Victory" operation.
"It is very difficult to come to a final conclusion now and get a clear picture," Foreign Minister Lavrov said in Russia's first reaction to the ceasefire agreement announced by United States President Donald Trump.
After Iran's attack on US military bases, President Trump then announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said no agreement had been reached.
"The American report assured Israel to agree to a ceasefire and to establish an indefinite ceasefire, that our Qatari friends played the same role with Tehran," Foreign Minister Lavrov explained.
"But after it was announced, there were reports of an attack on the exchange of attacks between Israel and Iran. Therefore, we should not make hasty conclusions based on separate information," he said.

The claim of the deal collapsed with Israel accusing Iran of violating the ceasefire. Iran denies allegations of violations and does not fire missiles.
Earlier, Russia, which signed a strategic partnership agreement with Iran in January, has condemned the Israeli and US attacks on Iran, as illegal and baseless.
