Lack Of Criticism And Frequent Praise, AHY Opportunity To Accompany Prabowo In 2029

JAKARTA UIN political observer Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Zaki Mubarak assessed that the closeness and chemistry that was built between President Prabowo Subianto and the Coordinating Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) opened the opportunity for the two to pair up in the upcoming 2029 Presidential Election.

Previously, Prabowo seemed more intimate with AHY. Prabowo often assigns important state duties to the eldest son of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

One of them was seen when giving a speech at the 2025 International Conference of Infrastructure (ICI) at JICC, some time ago, Prabowo praised AHY's performance and skills. Prabowo admitted that although he rarely gave directions, AHY could translate his intentions and desires.

According to Zaki, the closeness and chemistry that was built between Prabowo and AHY was a natural thing. Because, both of them have military backgrounds and are in the category of intellectual soldiers. In addition, there is a political environment that supports, where Prabowo has good relations with SBY.

Prabowo's praise for AHY is still reasonable. When compared to other political party leaders who become ministers, AHY is a minister whose performance is minimal in criticism. For example, regarding the mock-up plan for the program of 3 million houses, more criticism from the Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait, but not targeting AHY as the coordinating minister. Although Prabowo's praise for AHY is still considered reasonable, the closeness and chemistry of the two have the potential to develop into more serious political cooperation in the 2029 presidential election. This is because the increasingly central position on the political stage will boost AHY's electoral performance and have the opportunity to accompany Prabowo.

Zaki revealed that the scenario (P Prabowo and AHY duet) is very likely to be realized if AHY's electability is high and Joko Widodo's political power (Jokowi) represented by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka continues to weaken.

In the political context of 2029, AHY's name may still be one option. With his position as Chairman of the Democrats, of course, it will make it easier for AHY to take part in the upcoming contestation. It is possible that AHY was prepared to post Prabowo as well as to stem Gibran's political steps whose performance and recent contributions have been questioned by Prabowo loyalists," he said.
