Australia has temporarily closed its embassy in Tehran, due to the deteriorating security situation caused by the Iran-Israeli war for a week.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said Australian defense and aircraft personnel were being deployed to the Middle East as part of an emergency plan to help evacuate its citizens and diplomats when the airspace opened.
"We are in the process of bringing a crisis response team to Azerbaijan and the goal is to help Australians arriving at the border and that is the most likely border crossing to get out of Tehran," Wong said.
About 2,000 Australians and their families in Iran have asked for help leaving the country.
