SEMARANG - Police handed over five students suspected of rioting to commemorate the Labor Day in front of the Central Java Governor's office in Semarang on May 1, 2025, transferred to the Semarang City District Attorney (Kejari)

The head of the Semarang City Prosecutor's Office, Candra Saptadji, said the five students who were transferred to the public prosecutors were MAS, KM, ADA, ANH, and MJR.

After being delegated, the Semarang City Prosecutor's Office transferred the detention status of the five suspects from the detention center to the city detention.

Saptadji revealed humanitarian reasons for the change in the detention status of the five suspects.

"The consideration is because there is a guarantee from the campus, the person concerned is also in the educational process," he said

The suspects have also stated that they will not run away, destroy evidence, or repeat their actions.

The five suspects, he continued, were also asked to report twice a week to the prosecutor's office.

In this case, the five suspects were charged with Article 214 of the Criminal Code regarding against officers or Article 170 of the Criminal Code regarding beatings or Article 216 of the Criminal Code regarding disobeying the officers' orders.

Previously, the police dispersed the action to commemorate Labor Day in front of the Central Java Governor's Office on Jalan Pahlawan, Semarang City, on Thursday (1/5/2025) afternoon, after allegedly a provocation by a group of people dressed in black among the workers.

A group of people dressed in black then joined the mass action.

Chaos broke out after the labor group would disperse after completing the action.
