Former MA Zarof Ricar Official Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Corruption Court sentenced former Supreme Court official Zarof Ricar to 16 years in prison and with Rp1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

The panel of judges stated that Zarof was proven to have committed an evil conspiracy in the form of bribery in handling the murder convict, Ronald Tannur. In addition, Zarof Ricar was also proven to have received gratuities.

"Declaring that the defendant Zarof Ricar has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing an evil conspiracy to commit a criminal act of corruption, namely giving or promising something to the judge with the intention of influencing the decision of the case submitted to him to be tried as in the first indictment of the public prosecutor; and the criminal act of corruption accepts gratuities related to his position and which are contrary to his obligations or duties as stated in the indictments of the two public prosecutors, "said the chairman of the panel of judges, Rosihan Juhriah Rangkuti in a hearing reading the verdict reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 18.

Zarof was found guilty of violating Article 6 paragraph (1) letter a or Article 5 paragraph (1) and Article 12 Bjuncto Article 15 jo. Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.

The panel of judges decided not to impose a maximum prison sentence of 20 years as demanded by the public prosecutor for considering several things.

According to the panel of judges, if sentenced to 20 years in prison, Zarof will serve a sentence of 83 years old because he is now 63 years old, while the average life expectancy in Indonesia is around 72 years old.

"So that a 20-year sentence has the potential to become a life sentence in a de facto," he said.

In addition, the panel also considers Zarof Ricar currently has also been named a suspect in the alleged money laundering case (TPPU) which is still under investigation by the Attorney General's Office.

"So it is very possible that the defendant will be brought up again in a new case," he added.

Previously, Zarof Ricar was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months in prison in the alleged bribery case handling the murder case, Ronald Tannur, in 2024 at the cassation level, as well as allegations of gratification in 2012 2022.

In addition, Zarof was also charged with additional crimes in the form of confiscation of goods used for or obtained from corruption, including rupiah denominations, Singapore dollars, and Hong Kong dollars.

In this case, Zarof was charged with committing an evil conspiracy in the form of assistance to give or promise judges something, namely money worth IDR 5 billion.

The alleged conspiracy was carried out with legal adviser Ronald Tannur, Lisa Rachmat, with the aim of bribing Supreme Court Judge Soesilo, who is chairman of the panel in the continuation of Ronald Tannur's case at the cassation level in 2024.

In addition, he was charged with receiving gratuities worth Rp915 billion and 51 kilograms of gold while serving in the Supreme Court to assist in case management in 2012'2022.
